Dr Vandana Shiva trained as a physicist and did an interdisciplinary doctorate on ‘Hidden Variables and Non-Locality in Quantum Theory’ from the University of Western Ontario, Canada. She is Founder/Director of the ‘Research Foundation for Science, Technology and Ecology’ and ‘Navdanya’, the movement for seed saving and ecological agriculture.
Dr Shiva is the author of numerous books including Staying Alive, Ecofeminism, Seed Sovereignty and Food Security - Women in the Vanguard (Ed.), Soil Not Oil, Earth Democracy and Who Feeds the World.
For four decades of dedication to independent and ecological research, Dr Shiva has been honoured with many awards including The Right Livelihood Award, The Sydney Peace Prize, The Fukuoka Prize and the Lennon-Ono Peace Prize.
